When it comes to South Africa in the World Cups, their struggle is real. But this time around at the World Cup 2023, in India, they are facing a new struggle, due to the non-compliance with the anti-doping regulations from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). As per a report in Cricbuzz, the team is likely to face severe sanctions soon.

The report further suggests, that the South Africa National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO), has not complied with the WADA code brought in 2021. All this further poses another hurdle to bringing cricket to the Olympics. The IOC officials are set to make a decision regarding the inclusion of cricket at the Olympics, next week.
“During its meeting, the ExCo asserted non-compliance of three Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs) with the World Anti-Doping Code (Code). The two NADOs in question are Bermuda and South Africa; and the Major Event Organization (MEO) in question is the Pan American Sports Organization (Panam Sports),” a recent WADA statement said.
Till now South Africa has played one match in the competition, against Sri Lanka. They scored over 400 runs, and won by a big margin. Also WADA in a statement listed out the sanctions which can be put on South Africa.
South Africa Ban, Possible?
A full South Africa ban is ruled out but WADA presented the scenarios, as to how South Africa could be sanctioned. “South Africa’s flag will not be flown at regional, continental and World Championships, and events organized by Major Event Organizations (other than the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games), until SAIDS (South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport) is Reinstated.”
