World Cup 2023 Schedule: Five months away from the most anticipated start of the 50-overs World Cup in October, there is a certain lack of excitement around the tournament due to the fixture calendar still being kept under wraps and the key title contenders being focused with test cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the tournament’s governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), have both stated that the 13th edition’s dates and venues will be announced in “due course.” Follow ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 LIVE Updates With InsideSport.IN
“The discussion with the ICC is going on and we’ll soon announce the dates and venues,” a senior official at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said.
According to Indian media sources, it wouldn’t happen until after the Indian Premier League (IPL) season is over on May 28. While the paucity of information—unusual for a major sporting event—might anger supporters who intend to go to India, it is unlikely to have a significant influence on the preparations of the eight teams who have already qualified.
What do we know so far?
The tournament will reportedly take place from October 5 through November 19. The opening match is set for October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between the previous edition’s champion and runner-up, England and New Zealand, respectively. The final is likewise slated for November 19 at the same venue.
According to the most recent reports, team India’s ICC World Cup 2023 campaign will begin against Australia, while the high octane India vs. Pakistan match will take place on October 15. 12 Indian cities have been chosen as the host cities for the 2023 World Cup according to reports. Included in this list are Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Indore, Dharamshala, Guwahati, Raipur, and Rajkot. These venues might, however, be changed if required.
India, New Zealand, England, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and South Africa have already secured a place in the tournament so far. On the other hand, the Qualifier will be played for the final two slots between West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, The Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, Nepal, USA and UAE.
