KL Rahul still unfit for IND vs PAK, fully-fit Shreyas Iyer returns for Asia Cup

The selectors want to know if KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are game-ready and capable of enduring 50-over matches.

After a long injury layoff, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have made a comeback to India Squad for Asia Cup 2023. However, KL Rahul is still not 100%. He is likely to miss IND vs PAK clash on September 2. Selectors hope that he will be fit by the Super 4 stage of Asia Cup. Shreyas Iyer has been declared fully fit and will return to India Playing XI.

India Squad for Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

As a result, selectors have included Sanju Samson as a travelling reserve. In case, KL Rahul is not fit, Sanju will come to the team.

A few months ago, Rahul had surgery on his right thigh, and Iyer also underwent surgery for a back problem. However, it has been learned that the selection committee will first evaluate their fitness reports. Both players have been working hard to return to competitive cricket.

Nitin Patel, director of sports science and medicine at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has been called in primarily because of this.

All eyes on Shreyas Iyer & KL Rahul

A player has occasionally collapsed again soon after making a comeback from injury in international cricket in the past. Iyer’s inclusion, though, would also be based on the goals of the Indian team’s management.

Despite testing Suryakumar Yadav at that position in the West Indies, the team doesn’t now have a stable number four since he got hurt.

Both Rohit Sharma and the head of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, will hold a news conference to offer insight once the roster for the Asia Cup 2023 is chosen.

It’s expected that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who is presently serving as the captain of the India T20I side in Ireland, will succeed Hardik Pandya as Rohit Sharma’s vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2023. The Indian team’s first game is against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy.
