Women’s T20 World Cup prize money doubled, winners to get whooping Rs 19 crore

The ICC have lifted the total Women's T20 World Cup prize money pool to an impressive $7,958,080 — more than double that of the 2023 edition

In a big boost to women’s cricket, the ICC has doubled the prize money for the Women’s T20 World Cup. The moves comes after the the global body had earlier committed to equalling the prize money for both men’s and women’s competitions in the future. The marquee event will take place in the UAE between October 3-20.

The total prize money pool has been increased to Rs 66.6 crore ( $7,958,080) while the prize money for the winners has been doubled to Rs 19 crore ($2.34m). The reward for the winners has seen a 134% hike from what Australia (previous World Cup winners) received the last time.

This move is in line with the ICC’s strategy to prioritise the women’s game and accelerate its growth by 2032,” the ICC said in a statement on Tuesday.

The runners-up will also benefit from a 134% rise, securing $1.17 million in the upcoming edition. The semi-finalists will receive $675,000 each, more than three times their 2023 payout.

Furthermore, teams that exit during the group stage won’t leave empty-handed. There is a base prize of $112,500 awarded to all 10 participating teams, totalling $1.125 million. Teams finishing fifth to eighth will earn $270,000 each, and teams finishing ninth and 10th earn $135,000 each.

Teams will now receive equal prize money for the equivalent finishing position at comparable events as well as the same amount for winning a match at those events.
