Women’s T20 World Cup: India in ‘Group of Death’, ICC releases WC’s Groups, Fixtures

The Women in Blue lost to the defending champions Australia in the semifinals of the previous edition

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the groups and fixtures for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in Bangladesh in October. The competition, which begins on October 3rd, will include ten teams. The Women in Blue have been paired in what seemingly looks like a ‘group of death’.

The ten teams are divided into two groups of five teams each. While eight teams have guaranteed their places, two teams have still to compete in the tournament’s qualifying rounds.

India in ‘Group of Death’

The Indian Women’s cricket team has been grouped alongside defending champions and six-time winners Australia, Pakistan, the White Ferns, and a finalist from the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers. South Africa and England are in Group B, together with 2016 winners the West Indies, hosts Bangladesh, and a second qualifier.

India will begin their campaign on October 4th against New Zealand at Sylhet. They will then face arch-rivals Pakistan on October 6th. They will play the final two group stage games against the winner of Qualifier 1 on October 9th and the defending champions on October 13th.
