The Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 recently saw New Zealand lift their maiden trophy, after pipping perennial chokers South Africa, by 32 runs. Throughout the tournament, there were many star performers, but just a handful of them, who made heads turn. ICC on Monday revealed the Team of the Tournament, that only had one player from India — skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored 150 runs in 4 matches, at an average of 150, including a 54 vs Australia.
The highlight of her campaign was, that she scored her runs at no. 3 for India, at a strike rate of 133, one of the highest in the tournament. Apart from Harmanpreet Kaur, South Africans’ Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits made the cut. Player of the Match from the NZ vs SA final, Amelia Kerr was also included in the XI.
For the record, she picked up 15 wickets in the tournament, and also scored 135 runs. Another Kiwi player, Rosemary Mair was selected, who managed to pick up 10 wickets at an average of 11.70. As far as other bowlers are concerned, Nonkululeko Mlaba featured in the list too. If one talks about other Asian players in the team, Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana made it to the team.
Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil Fail to Enter Women’s T20 World Cup Team
But despite some solid performances, Indian Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shreyanka Patil did not make it to the Women’s T20 World Cup Team of the Tournament. Jemimah, in four matches scored crucial 68 runs. Patil, in 4 matches, bagged as many wickets, at an economy of 5.60. Surprisingly, even Asha Sobhana, who picked 5 wickets in 3 matches, did not find a spot.
Another major omission for India was, Arundhati Reddy, who bagged 7 wickets in the tournament. She had an economy of 6 only.
