Women’s IPL 2023: BCCI-WIPL – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling over having five teams for the inaugural edition of the women’s IPL in 2023. Not only that, but it is also considering playing five overseas players – four from full ICC members team and 1 player from the associate nation to be in playing XI. BCCI is also pondering two options of selling IPL teams zone wise like North (Jammu/ Dharamsala), South (Kochi/Vizag), Central (Indore/Nagpur/Raipur), East (Ranchi/Cuttack), West (Pine/Rajkot). The matches will be played at non-IPL venues as well as existing city-wise like the Men’s IPL (Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata – with matches held at IPL venues). A final call for the venues will be taken by the IPL chairperson and BCCI officials.
Women IPL 2023: Format of WIPL 2023 – All five teams will play each other twice in the league stage of IPL. The team finishing at the top will directly qualify for the finals. The teams finishing second and third will play the eliminator. Unlike the men’s IPL, a bunch of WIPL will be played at one venue, before the matches shift to another venue.
The inaugural edition of WIPL 2023 is likely to be played in two venues. The venues are yet to be finalized.
