How & When BCCI will sell Women IPL Franchises? First thing first – As per info given by BCCI to InsideSport, the board will sell the women’s IPL franchises & the broadcast rights by way of a closed bid. Unlike for IPL & other BCCI rights the e-auction module will not be used.
The base price for each franchise is likely to be Rs. 400 Crore. The tender document for the franchises will be floated the Media Rights Tender is completed. The BCCI is considering two plans. One is to sell WIPL teams based on zones and conduct the matches at non-IPL venues.
BCCI is of the view that the MEDIA RIGHTS value will give potential franchise bidders clear-cut revenue visibility. It is worth noting that the BCCI hasn’t kept a base price for MEDIA RIGHTS Tender.
- The tender was recently floated for the 2023-2027 period.
- The tender is available for purchase till December 31.
- The bid submission will take place on January 12.
- The BCCI will follow a closed bidding process to award media rights for Women’s IPL.
“We will be coming with franchise rights tender once Media Rights Tender is completed. We feel that is how the potential bidders can give us REAL VAULE for the franchises”, informed a BCCI offcial.
In doing so, the BCCI could be looking to raise anywhere between Rs 6,000 and Rs 8000 crore (in the range of a billion dollars) from the sale of these five franchises.
The BCCI has asked the existing men’s IPL team owners to participate in the bidding but the tender process is open to any and all investors who meet the cricket board’s minimum eligibility criteria. There is no guarantee whatsoever that should the bid of an existing IPL franchise owner and a new investor match, any preference shall be given to the existing franchise owner.
Women IPL 2023: The league will have five franchise-based teams that will play a total of 22 matches. Each team will have a maximum of 18 players in the squad including six foreign players.
