‘Winning IND vs SA Tests wouldn’t make up for World Cup loss’, admits skipper Rohit Sharma

In his first press conference after the World Cup final loss last month. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opened up about the heartbreaking loss.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma came tantalisingly close to becoming the third Indian captain to secure the 50-over World Cup title. Now, he’s back with renewed energy to lead India against South Africa in the upcoming IND vs SA Test series. He led India’s strong run in the World Cup before the final, and he’s ready to make history by winning India’s first Test against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation. However, the Indian skipper admitted that a series win wouldn’t completely make up for the World Cup loss.

“It will be a matter of huge respect to win the series here, but I don’t know if it will make up for the World Cup loss. Winning a World Cup is a different thing, but we will give our best. We have been working hard for so long we deserve to win something big“, stated Rohit Sharma in press conference.

India went into the World Cup final as the favourites for once, but they lost to Australia. India’s batters didn’t do well, except for Rohit, and Australia’s Travis Head scored a hundred, leading to a one-sided final.

Rohit and Kohli were both very disappointed after the final, and they took some time away from cricket. But they’re back for the South Africa series, ready to move on.

Following the World Cup, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli decided to take a hiatus from their national responsibilities, opting out of the home series against Australia and the white-ball segment of the South African tour.

Both veterans are now making a comeback for the red-ball format in the series against South Africa, commencing on December 26 in Centurion.
