Win the WTC! Rahul Dravid makes one last request to Virat Kohli as he signs off as India’s head coach

Yes, by winning the ODI World Cup (2011), ICC Champions Trophy (2013) and now the T20 World Cup 2024, Virat Kohli has completed white-ball cricket.

Team India’s emphatic triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa sparked jubilation across the nation, washing away the disappointment of the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss. The celebrations weren’t confined to the field, with the Indian dressing room erupting in a frenzy of emotions and obviously so!

Dravid’s message to Kohli

The ICC, offering a glimpse into the joyous chaos, shared a video where head coach Rahul Dravid can be heard saying something to Virat Kohli. It also offers a hint at the team’s next target – the elusive World Test Championship.

All three white ticked off, one red to go,” Dravid seemed to remark, suggesting Kohli, who was part of the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy victories, has now completed his collection of major ICC trophies in white-ball cricket with the T20 World Cup win. This exchange between Dravid and Kohli, possibly Dravid’s final message to Kohli as head coach, reignites the fire for the ultimate prize in Test cricket.

WTC remains elusive from Kohli & India

However, one trophy remains elusive – the World Test Championship. Dravid’s comment lays bare Kohli’s burning desire to conquer the pinnacle of Test cricket. India, under Kohli’s captaincy, reached the finals of the World Test Championship in 2021 but fell short. Even in 2023, Australia thumped India in the WTC Final.

However, a sparkling line waits ahead. The Men in Blue are currently at the top of the WTC rankings and are more or less likely to play the 2025 Final as well. Virat, the indomitable red-ball batter, would be rearing to get past this hurdle and officially complete international cricket!
