‘Will try very hard’: Sunil Gavaskar predicts Delhi Capitals to go all out for Ishan Kishan in IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Sunil Gavaskar believes that Ishan Kishan can be a perfect replacement for Rishabh Pant at Delhi Capitals

Ishan Kishan will be one of the most sought names in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Mumbai Indians didn’t have a slot remaining after retaining their big 4, meaning the keeper now finds his way into the auction. Now this has created an opportunity for Delhi Capitals to capitalize on it. Sunil Gavaskar has claimed that DC might even play 15-20 crores to rope in the southpaw.

Things are vastly different for Delhi Capitals. The side reportedly had a fallout with captain Rishabh Pant and thus the star player too wasn’t retained on IPL 2025 Retention Day. While DC has an RTM remaining, it is highly unlikely they will use it on Pant. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan can walk into the side as a direct replacement for their departing captain.

Will Delhi Capitals go for Ishan Kishan?

Delhi Capitals will be needing a perfect replacement for Rishabh Pant. And Ishan Kishan perfectly fits the bill. Like his contemporary, Kishan is a destructive southpaw who can bat up and in the middle order pretty well. Both are good keepers and have good leadership abilities.

“I feel Delhi will try very hard to get Ishan Kishan. They might be ready to pay 15 to 20 crores for Ishan Kishan because we have seen that Ishan Kishan has the ability to change the complexion of the game in T20 cricket because of the way he bats,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.

As per the price goes, Rishabh Pant is expected to be sold for a whooping price of 25-30 crores. Now this can play safely in the hands of DC who can save quite a bit of their remaining budget if they sign Ishan Kishan for a price of 15-20 crores. On the other hand, Gavaskar observed that since Punjab Kings too have the highest budget, they too can make a move for the ex-MI keeper.

“With Delhi not retaining Rishabh Pant, they will look for a wicketkeeper-batter as well. Punjab has possibly got the biggest purse so far when they go into the auction. So Punjab will also make a play for Ishan Kishan,” Gavaskar concluded.
