16 years later, Royal Challengers Bengaluru men’s team do not have a trophy to show for. With Smriti Mandhana-led RCB Women lifting the WPL title, the pressure is on Virat Kohli & Faf du Plessis to deliver a trophy. RCB’s new director of cricket Mo Bobat has sent exactly the same message to the players: Play bold and win the trophy. Faf du Plessis-led side begins IPL 2024 with CSK vs RCB clash in Chennai on Friday.
“We will try to win the trophy at this stage. We want to play the way we want to play tomorrow and all the 14 league matches,” Mo Bobat said ahead of the CSK vs RCB clash.
Fresh start for RCB
With no Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar at the helm, RCB will begin a fresh chapter under Andy Flower and Mo Bobat. And the two are not bogged down by RCB’s history or the lack thereof.
“It’s my first year, and I’m not laid down with the side’s 16-year history. RCB has a very rich history, and it is our time and opportunity to go out and play,” Bobat added.
“We have a fantastic group of players. There are no concerns, and we have a fully fit squad. So, have to make the most of this opportunity in front of us.

WPL done, want IPL title
Now that the trophy drought is over for the franchise as a whole, Mo Bobat wants the men to deliver as the women did with WPL.
Mo Bobat said that Smriti Mandhana & Co will inspire Faf du Plessis-led side with the WPL title.
“It’s a great achievement from the women’s team. We had been watching them play, and it was both exciting and nervous at the same time. So, all credit to the women’s team for what they have achieved. But, we don’t think too much about it since it is a different competition. However, we hope to have both the trophies, which would be a nice thing for us,” Bobat said.
