Sarfaraz Khan had a memorable debut after a long wait in the IND vs ENG series & he did not fail to impress with the bat. There has been no Test action since then and hence the batter has been out of the picture, quietly going about his training. Sarfaraz faces stiff competition in securing a spot in India’s squad for the upcoming Tests against BAN and Australia.
‘Zero expectations’: Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz Khan told the Indian Express that he had zero expectations about making it to the team but said that he would be ready for any opportunity that arises. The return of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will put the batter’s chances of getting selected at risk. Sarfaraz explained that he had been patient all along and will continue to be so.
“I have zero expectations… But I’ll be ready if the opportunity arises. That is what I’ve been doing all along and I don’t see any reason to change that,” Sarfaraz said.
Sarfaraz Khan will be in action in the Buchi Babu Trophy where he will lead Mumbai. He, along with his brother Musheer, will the Duleep Trophy after that.
Delayed debut a blessing
Sarfaraz Khan also reflected on his delayed debut and called it a blessing in disguise. Despite being in prolific form in consecutive domestic seasons, the selectors continued to ignore Sarfaraz Khan until they changed their minds for the England Tests. Sarfaraz revealed that the repeated snub allowed him to spend more time in domestic cricket which helped him become a beter batter.
“Some get a break very soon in their career. Some have to wait. In my case, I’m fortunate that it took time because I got to spend a lot of time in domestic cricket and that grind helped me become a better batsman,” Sarfaraz said.
