Former head coach Rahul Dravid’s son Samit is hogging the spotlight currently with his stint for Mysuru Warriors in Maharaja Trophy. The 18-year-old started off his career on a promising note, displaying his ability with the bat. With the IPL mega auction set for December, it remains to be seen if Dravid will be allowed to participate in the cash-rich league which can further boost his career.
Can Samit Dravid play in IPL?
As per the rules, a player must have played at least two List A or first-class matches in order to participate in the IPL auction. The player must be registered with a state association. A player must play one of the two matches organized and recognised by the BCCI. The team scouts, who keep a close eye on these games, then invite the player for trials if he manages to impress them.
As for Samit Dravid, he is yet to make his debut for Karnataka senior team. He was a part of the Cooch Behar winning U19 Karnataka team in 2023-24. He featured in Karnataka State Cricket Association XI in a three-day game against the visiting Lancashire side in Alur.
Samit Dravid has a good chance of being named in Karnataka’s side for the upcoming domestic season. If picked up for Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, he stands a good chance of impressing the teams and making his way into the IPL auction pool.
