Will Rishabh Pant be a good captain for LSG in IPL 2025?

Rishabh Pant became the highest price player in the history of the IPL in Jeddah during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Lucknow Super Giants are now without a captain heading into the IPL 2025. LSG decided not to retain KL Rahul after a fallout with team owner Sanjiv Goenka. And now the question has arisen, who will captain Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League?

While there are quite a few candidates to don the captaincy role, there is however a name that stands out among the rest – Rishabh Pant. LSG spilled a huge cash, 27 crores to bring in Rishabh Pant. And now ahead of the IPL 2025, Goenka has expressed his admiration for Pant’s qualities as a captain of the team.

Leadership Qualities

Rishabh Pant has previously led Delhi Capitals in IPL and has been an able captain for the team. And this has been a major reason for Goenka backing in the young southpaw. “People get surprised very quickly. According to me, I don’t give surprises. It has been decided but we will announce it in the next few days. We have four leaders in our team – Rishabh (Pant), Pooran, Markram, and Mitch Marsh. So it becomes a very strong leadership pool of intellect and thought, and strategy. They are all people who can go with the mindset to win. Rishabh has the hunger and passion to win. So a good team has been built,” Goenka said.

Rishabh Pant has also showcased strong resilience ever since his return from the near-fatal injury. He made his return to IPL last season, and that paved his way back into the India Cricket Team setup. Rishabh Pant’s fighting spirit now makes him the highest-priced player in the IPL history.

Speculation on Captaincy

LSG is yet to announce who will captain the side. While there have been hints of Pant taking over the reins of the side, there are however quite a few players who can effectively lead the side. These include the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell MArsh and Aiden Markram.
