There’s a lot of difference between cricketers and commoners like us. That’s the story for most days, but not on November 24-25. Faf du Plessis, captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) from 2022 to 2024, just like us, has no clue what’ll happen at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Whether he’ll return to one of three franchises he’s played for or start a new IPL chapter at 40, he’s unsure about it.
Faf du Plessis, unsure about his IPL 2025 auction fate
“You never know with auctions. You never know what’s going to happen, so everyone is excited to see what happens on November 24. I’ve got no idea what’s going to happen, so I’ll be looking.” Faf told ANI.
Despite taking RCB to the playoffs twice in three seasons, Faf wasn’t retained. Why? Well, because the South African is 40. Although still fit as a fiddle and batting as well as ever in T20 cricket, RCB weren’t ready to retain Faf for a big sum. It may seem harsh, but given that you are building a three for not one but three seasons, it was the right call. However, that doesn’t mean they can’t buy him back much cheaper.
Faf du Plessis IPL stats
Innings | Runs | Average | Strike Rate | 50s | Highest Score |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
138 | 4571 | 35.99 | 136.36 | 37 | 99 |
Faf was paid Rs 7 crore last season. His base price for the IPL 2025 mega auction is Rs 2 crore, but there is a good possibility that he won’t be a hot commodity and might earn much less than he did last year. Where will he go that Faf like us is unsure about?
