Will MS Dhoni play IPL 2025? CSK boss unsure yet, says “will tell you by October 31”

Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are yet to receive a response from MS Dhoni over his participation in IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are yet to learn of MS Dhoni’s plans for IPL 2025, with just over 10 days left for the teams to submit their retention lists. The future of the former skipper’s participation in IPL has been the topic of discussion every year after the league. It is intensified further this year due to the IPL 2025 mega auction that is set to held between late November and December.

Will MS Dhoni play for CSK in IPL 2025?

As per Sports Vikatan, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan claimed that MS Dhoni has not confirmed his participation in IPL 2025 yet. The official from the five-time IPL winning team said that the fans would be informed of the former’s skipper’s decision before October 31. It is pertinent to mention that Dhoni will be entering IPL 2025 as a uncapped player, having played his last international game over 5 years ago.

We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team. But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni said, ‘I will tell you before October 31.’ We hope that he will play,” Kasi Viswanathan said.

Dhoni was the skipper of the franchise ever since the inception of IPL in 2008 and remained in the position until 2023. In the two years that CSK were banned, the keeper-batter played for Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG), in which he captained for a season as wel. His return to CSK saw him being replaced by Ravindra Jadeja as skipper, only for the team to hand over the reins back to the veteran in 2023. Dhoni decided to take the fans by surprise on the opening day of IPL 2024 when he handed over the mantle to young Ruturaj Gaikwad.

While fans have speculated the end of MS Dhoni’s career after each IPL season, he has bounced back, claiming that his career is “not yet” over. Should Dhoni choose to continue with CSK for IPL 2025, he can very well be retained at a base price for Rs 4 cr, something that would be a steal deal for the Super Kings.
