Will Mohammed Shami travel to Australia to play remainder of IND vs AUS Tests?

Mohammed Shami last played a match for Team India in the ODI World Cup Final against Australia

Will Mohammed Shami will be fit in time and play a part of Team India in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy? Now that is the most pertinent question. It was announced that Shami would be a part of the Bengal team that will play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. But Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced that Shami would be rested for the opening match raising doubts if he will be fit and ready to take part in the IND vs AUS Test.

Initially, it was believed that if Shami recovered in time, he would fly to Australia and join the India Cricket Team for the last 2 Test matches of the series. Now as things stand, in no way would Shami be available for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. And now if the offset chance, he recovers by the next week, he can only join the team before the New Year Test match in Sydney.

Can Shami play a part in BGT?

The CAB announced that Shami would be rested for the opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, without citing a reason if the ace speedster was injured or not. Shami since his return from injury has been playing domestic cricket. He played a Ranji Trophy match and then followed it with quite a few Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) matches.

But his return to the National Team still remains a doubt. After the conclusion of the IND vs AUS 3rd Test in Gabba, India captain Rohit Sharma told the media that it is high time that the NCA should give an update on the pacer.

Previously, it was revealed that the BCCI Medical Team wants Shami to reduce quite a bit of weight. Rohit further added that only when Shami is a 100% fit and gets the NOC from NCA, he would be able to join the team. The team is in no way interested in bringing back the ace speedster without him being fully fit.

Now as things stand, it remains to be seen why he would be missing the opening match in Hyderabad against Delhi. But if he gets the NOC by the end of December, he can make it just in time to travel to Australia and be a part of the team for the Sydney Test.
