Will Mohammed Shami play in Border-Gavaskar Trophy? NCA report holds key to pacer’s comeback

Whether Mohammed Shami will play the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is entirely based on his fitness. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that if the ace speedster is fit, he will surely be a part of the Indian squad. Currently, Shami is recovering from his ankle injury and his undergoing his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Initially, there were claims that Shami could be fit to be a part of the IND vs BAN Test series. And now it has been fixed that neither will be take part in the Duleep Trophy nor will be play against Bangladesh. Ahead of the IND vs NZ Tests, Shami if fit can play a Ranji Trophy match.

But then again, Shami’s inclusion in the team is sole based on his fitness. “Shami playing the Australia series or not is a matter of his fitness, and a decision will be taken after the NCA report,” Jay Shah told ANI.

Mohammed Shami has been missing action since the ODI World Cup final. He then underwent an ankle injury and is now on his road to complete recovery. The India Cricket Team would be dearly hoping for his comeback into the roster soon. Shami’s bowling prowess will work wonders for the team when India visit Australia later in the year for the crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Furthermore, Jay Shah has also confirmed that VVS Laxman will continue in his role as the head of the NCA. Laxman’s contract was set to expire soon. But the BCCI Secretary has confirmed that Laxman will continue his role that he has been doing diligently since 2021.
