As the IPL Retention deadline Day approaches, teams begin to finalize their picks. And now defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are now in a spot of bother. The Kolkata outfits have a serious decision to make. Will KKR retain their captain Shreyas Iyer?
KKR has too many options in terms of players that they want to retain. Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, Ramandeep Singh, Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Mitchell Starc and finally Shreyas Iyer are all there to take. Now, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned team is facing a major crisis in finalizing their IPL 2025 Retention list.
Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2025 Mega Auction?
As things stand, Kolkata Knight Riders dearly wish to retain their captain. but the limit of retaining 5 players has put the side in a place of real bother. On the other hand, the team is also relatively unsure if their captain falls on the list of high-performing players.
Should Shreyas Iyer not be retained, then the Mumbai star would find his name in the mega auction list. However then, all hope is not lost. Should Iyer be thrown into the auction, the defending champions would still have the option of retaining him via a Right to Match (RTM) card.

As per the retention rules, only 5 capped players can be retained. And KKR has limited options in retaining their core strength of players. Previously in the BCCI Owner’s meeting Shah Rukh Khan expressed his desire to have multiple RTMs and no retentions.
But now with the IPL 2025 Retention day fast approaching, KKR has a decision to make. Should they retain their captain or not will be a major decision as the entire country awaits patiently to know the decision.
