Will KL Rahul feature for Delhi Capitals (DC) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener? Even DC captain Axar Patel hasn’t got a clue about Rahul’s availability against the Lucknow Super Kings (LSG).
For the unaware, Rahul was the last player from DC to join the team in Vishakhapatnam. Having won the 2025 Champions Trophy with the India cricket team on March 9, Rahul didn’t join DC until yesterday (March 22). The wicketkeeper batter had instead decided to train under Team India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai rather than joining DC.
KL Rahul to miss DC vs LSG match?
It was already reported that Rahul will miss the opening matches due to personal reasons. While we still don’t know these ‘personal reasons’, it’s safe to assume that it’ll be due to the birth of his first child with wife Athiya Shetty.
Axar confirmed that Rahul has joined DC. But he isn’t sure whether he’ll be available for the match against LSG on March 24 at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
“Obviously, he joined the team, and we all know that he has a personal problem. So, we don’t know yet. So, if he comes back, we’ll ask him if he is okay, and we’ll let you know tomorrow morning. I think we’ve got to know, and so now we don’t know if he is available or not,” Axar said on the eve of the match.
One mustn’t forget that DC have lost one player already, Harry Brook. The Englishman had pulled out of the IPL 2025. And the franchise has yet to name a replacement for him. Now they might lose Rahul as well for the first few matches.
