Can KKR retain Harshit Rana as an uncapped player for IPL 2025?

Pacer Harshit Rana has played 21 matches in IPL and scalped 25 wickets so far in his young career.

IPL 2025: Harshit Rana, the promising fast bowler from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp, was expected to make his debut for the Indian national team in the final T20I against Bangladesh. However, due to an unfortunate viral infection, Rana missed the chance to wear the Indian jersey. In a recent development, Harshit Rana was added to the Indian squad for the third and final IND vs NZ Test. On that note, let us check out if KKR can retain Harshit Rana as an uncapped player for IPL 2025.

Will KKR retain Harshit Rana for IPL 2025?

To note, the deadline for IPL retention list is October 31. On the other hand, the IND vs NZ 3rd Test will start from October 1 onwards. Under IPL rules, franchises can retain uncapped players for a lower price, capped at INR 4 crore. As Rana has not made his international debut yet, KKR could retain him under this category.

Had Rana debuted for India, KKR would have had to either release him into the auction pool or pay a higher retention fee to keep him. Now, KKR can retain the talented pacer without significantly impacting their auction plans, allowing them to build a stronger squad for IPL 2025.
