Will Jasprit Bumrah succeed Rohit Sharma as India captain? Allan Border thinks so

Australian legend Allan Border heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy skills and noted that he could not be faulted at all

Former Australian cricketer Allan Border heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah‘s captaincy skills and backed him to be Rohit Sharma’s successor. The premium pacer led the side from the front to a 295-run win in IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth in the absence of Rohit Sharma. Bumrah has captained India on two occasions in the past and is a front-runner to replace Rohit as the next Indian skipper.

“Jasprit Bumrah will do a very good job”

In an interview with Times of India, Allan Border backed Bumrah to do a very good job as the Indian captain. He noted that the pacer couldn’t be faulted in terms of captaincy and field placements and pointed out that it was very evident from the IND vs AUS 1st Test in Perth. Further, the legend also said that Bumrah had used himself efficiently in the 1st Test, allowing him to lead the side from the front to a mammoth victory.

He’ll do a very good job. In Perth, he used himself properly. Captaincy-wise, the way he set the fields, you couldn’t fault him,” Allan Border said.

Further, Allan Border couldn’t help but lavish praise on Bumrah for lighting up the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. He pointed out that the pacer’s unique shuffling run-up combined with his skills made it very difficult for the batters to decipher what they were going to be up against.

Bumrah, these days, is on that pedestal. His wrists, his release points are different to other bowlers. Because of that hyperextension, he’s releasing the ball a foot further down than other bowlers. He’s got a unique shuffling run-up, and then the snap of these wrists, he’s amazing. Being different, plus having that skill, it’s a whole different level of difficulty for the batsman,” he added.
