Will Jacks & Phil Salt reap rewards of IPL success, set to make England’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad

England are the defending champions, but with their ace player Ben Stokes out, they've got a big task ahead of them.

Will Jacks and Phil Salt are expected to find themselves in the England cricket team’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad after their incredible performances in the IPL 2024 season. The two right-handed batters have played match-winning knocks in the league and shown the ECB why they are needed. According to ESPNcricinfo, the top-order batters have found a space in England’s 15-man squad, along with shocking inclusions.

Salt is among the top five run-getters in the IPL, and Jacks hit an incredible 41-ball century against the Gujarat Titans yesterday (April 28). Jonny Bairstow also finds a place after finally returning to form. The wicketkeeper batter had been going through a rough patch since October last year and made a splashing return, scoring 108* in the Punjab Kings record-breaking chase of 262.

Jordan & Hartley’s inclusion

Chris Jordan is a part of the Punjab Kings but hasn’t featured yet. Despite injury concerns and no game, his past performances and Jamie Overton being ruled out have helped him find a place for himself. The only shocking inclusion is that of Tom Hartley. The left-arm finger spinner made his debut last year and also featured in a 5-match Test series against India earlier in the year.

Hartley is expected to be the England cricket team’s second spinner after Adil Rashid and has gotten a nod over teammate Rehan Ahmed. Interestingly, Hartley hasn’t played a single T20I but will still find a place. Injury-prone fast bowlers Reece Topley and Jofra Archer have also found a place, with Sam Curran being the fourth pacer.

Probable England T20 World Cup 2024 squad

Jos Buttler (c & wk), Phil Salt, Will Jacks, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone. Moeen Ali (vc), Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Tom Hartley, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Reece Topley.
