BCCI to have clarity by July regarding Champions Trophy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is awaiting a clearer picture on the government’s stance towards the tournament.

Sources to Cricbuzz suggest a decision will be made by July, likely during the ICC’s annual conference in Colombo. This timeframe coincides with the expectation that the Indian government, following its re-election, will maintain its current policy on Pakistan.

We will have some idea in the next two months,” a source confirmed.

Hybrid model for Champions Trophy a possibility

If the current policy persists, a “hybrid model” similar to the recent Asia Cup might be implemented.

This would involve hosting some Champions Trophy matches (of India) in a neutral venue, possibly the UAE.

Lahore eyed as venue for India Matches

Earlier reports suggested Lahore might be designated as the sole venue for India’s matches within Pakistan. This arrangement would streamline travel for the Indian team and potentially allow fans easier access through the Wagah border crossing.

Champions Trophy Schedule?

Regardless of India’s participation, the Champions Trophy itself will proceed as planned.

The 50-over tournament, featuring eight teams, is likely to be held between February 19th and March 9th, 2025. This 20-day window allows member boards to adjust their domestic league schedules accordingly.
