Will BCCI end Shreyas Iyer & Ishan Kishan’s ODI exile in IND vs SL series?

IND vs SL ODI Series: Both Ishan Kishan & Shreyas Iyer have been snubbed off their BCCI Central contract can see returning to Team India

The return of Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the India Cricket Team has opened new avenues. With Rahul Dravid gone, there is a high chance of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan making a comeback for the Men in Blue. The duo were snubbed off their BCCI Central contracts after failing to participate in domestic cricket.

But now under a new regime, under a new era, there is a big chance for the duo to make a comeback for Team India. This is owing to the only one person – Gautam Gambhir.

Will Shreyas Iyer & Ishan Kishan return?

Both Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were left out of the new BCCI Central Contract released earlier this year. This meant both the ace batters won’t be able to don the Blue Jersey for Team India. But the players can still play should they receive a call up, and will be given match fees and not a retainer.

With this option open, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has the option of calling the players back. Now the question is – Will Gambhir make the call? The answer can be yes. Gambhir has a very close relation with Shreyas Iyer. The former mentored Iyer this season in IPL 2024 as Iyer went on to lift the trophy with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Furthermore, since Gambhir prefers aggressive cricket, Ishan Kishan too fits the bill. Known for his no-nonsense hard hitting skills, Gambhir can effectively use the squash buckler as a finisher in the ODI setup.

Shreyas Iyer has been good for India in the ODI World Cup, while Ishan Kishan being a keeper provides a viable backup option. And with the likes of seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli or even Jasprit Bumrah being rested, the duo can see their ODI exile coming to an end.
