Notably, Stokes sustained an injury in the first Test of the Ashes series against Australia. It was fortunately not a major injury as the 30-year-old made a comeback and did brilliantly in the recently-concluded series against West Indies. However, he has now revealed that he hurt his knee during the series and his return to the game currently stands uncertain.

“I think it was pretty obvious that I was struggling with my knee a bit out in the Caribbean. At the moment there is no training. So I will go and get the scans and then we can find out what’s going on, and then hopefully can make a plan from there,” Stokes said on Round the wicket podcast.
The all-rounder, who skipped IPL 2022, was all set to play county cricket of Durham but that seems to far-fetched now. He further opened up on how he was just getting back to his best when this injury happened, by saying “I want to say, yes. I felt like I was at somewhere near (my level best). But then, at the same time, I look back and go, If I didn’t have these knee worries then maybe things could have been different.”

With the county season approaching, there is a two-month break for the England national cricket team before they take on New Zealand for a three-match Test series. It will now be interesting to see if Stokes can recover in time for that series.
