West Indies needed to dramatically change their ways to stay alive in the T20 World Cup, and Chris Gayle thus returned to the top of the order, having batted at No.3 for most of his games in the build-up of the competition. The veteran did not rouble the opposition much in the first two games, and following Lendl Simmons poor show, was promoted to his usual opening slot, but the move did not pay much dividends.

Gayle struggled in his short stint at the crease, managing just four runs in 10 deliveries. The onus was of the Universe Boss to stick in and play a big knock after Evin Lewis departed early, but the veteran was cleaned up by nemesis Mahedi Hasan to put a spanner in West Indies’ works. Hasan has now dismissed Chris Gayle four times in six T20 games, with the West Indian legend scoring at less than a run a ball against the Bangladesh spinner.

With Gayle being 42, the T20 World Cup was looked up to as his final swansong but things have not gone as per plan for the Universe Boss and the West Indies. The two-time champions are staring at an early exit after being defeated comfortably in both their games at the T20 World Cup, finding themselves at the bottom of the group game. A loss against Bangladesh will bring curtains on their campaign, despite games against Australia and Sri Lanka left.
