The star pacer sustained the injury on the second day of the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney and was unable to bowl in the second innings, where Australia successfully chased 162 to win by six wickets.
Bumrah, who claimed 32 wickets in the series, also missed India’s triumphant Champions Trophy campaign. Though initially named in India’s provisional squad, he was replaced by Varun Chakravarthy due to fitness concerns.

Reports suggest that the physios at the BCCI Centre of Excellence have not set a definite timeline for Bumrah’s return, despite his gradual progress in nets and match simulations.
Previously, chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed that Bumrah was prescribed five weeks of complete rest until the final week of January to ease the strain on his injured back.
This measure was necessary as Bumrah had sustained a similar injury in 2023 and underwent surgery in March that year, resulting in a significant absence from competitive cricket.
