Team India takes on Bangladesh in the final Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023 today. Notably, the Men in Blue have already booked Asia Cup final spot against Sri Lanka. With IND vs BAN being a dead rubber, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma announced five changes. However, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer’s name was still missing.
Shreyas Iyer had also missed the matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. BCCI said that Iyer has shown improvement but is yet to fully recover from back spasm.
“Shreyas Iyer has shown improvement but he is not yet fully fit”, BCCI said in a statement.
Shreyas Iyer has been battling with injuries since April. The 28-year-old returned to cricket after a long lay-off and a back surgery. Iyer played against Pakistan and Nepal in the group league stage before pulling out of IND vs PAK just before the toss after complaining of back spasms.
Shreyas Iyer Injury Update
- In March, Iyer complained of back pain after Day 3’s of the fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. From the initial review, Iyer has a recurrence of his back injury that kept him out of the first test.
- He underwent back surgery in London in April and missed the entire IPL 2023.
- Iyer missed the World Test Championship 2023 Final against Australia in June.
- Iyer missed the India tour of the West Indies 2023.
- In July, BCCI issued a statement stating Iyer’s is still under rehab at NCA and the date of his comeback is August.
- Iyer missed the IND vs IRE T20 series in August.
- After passing the fitness test, Iyer was picked for Asia Cup 2023 squad.
- But after playing just two games, Iyer has suffered an injury again.
- He got ruled out of IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash with back spasm.
Virat, Hardik Bumrah rested, Tilak makes debut
Team India have made five changes for the dead rubber against Bangladesh. Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Mohammad Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav have been rested for the IND vs BAN clash. Meanwhile, youngster Tilak Varma makes his ODI debut. Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna and Suryakumar Yadav have been also included.
