In the Indian Premier League, Rohit Sharma has been able captain for Mumbai Indians. But the hard-hitter has been quite shy of runs in the recent past if compared with other star openers across the league. His best campaign came back in 2021 where he managed to score 381 runs from 14 games.

Interestingly, IPL 2024 has been quite sub par but the Hitman has showed some signs of progress. His average has reached 30 and his strike rate has crossed 152.78. But the question remains – Is that enough?

Other top order batters for Team India has been in deft touch in IPL 2024. Fellow opener Yashasvi Jaiswal started the campaign on a slow note but roared back to form with some huge knocks. On the other hand, ace batter Virat Kohli has been a class apart compared to others.

Kohli comfortably sits at the top of the most runs scored list and will look to carry his fine form in the ICC T20 World Cup. But Rohit’s lack of finding runs at this crucial juncture of time is a ticking time bomb for India. T20 World Cup is a big tournament and naturally hopes will be high on the Men in Blue.

India came close to lifting the ODI World Cup but surrendered to Australia in the finals. On the other hand, India’s ICC jinx continues for 11 years. And should India want to break the jinx then apart from equal contributions from everyone, the captain of the ship will have to lead by example with his bat.
