England Cricket Team’s star bowler Jofra Archer wanted to play IPL 2024. However the England and Wales Cricket Board is (ECB) is planning on preparing Archer for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Archer is currently on a rehab from his elbow injury to prepare for the upcoming ICC Tournament.
England’s director of Cricket Rob Key has claimed that their plan that Archer wanted to play in IPL. But the ECB asked him not to. The Three Lions are unwilling to put extra pressure on the player who has been injury plagued for the last couple of years.
Archer is yet to play professional cricket since May 2023. He joined England’s ODI World Cup but continued his training. He continued to do the same when England toured West Indies last month.
“Our plan is the T20 World Cup, building him up slowly,” Rob Key said in BBC’s ‘Tailenders Podcast’.
“I saw him bowl in the Caribbean and it was like he’d never been away. I don’t want to get back to this thing where he plays and then goes down again. He (Archer) wanted to play in the IPL, but we said not this time. Hopefully, the years he has missed he can add to the end of his career. He is such a talent,” Key added.
Jofra Archer was not retained by Mumbai Indians after he claimed to be absent for the entire tournament. Not only him, the ECB decided on workload for quite a few players that included England Test skipper Ben Stokes.
