Why is Suryakumar Yadav not playing Duleep Trophy?

Suryakumar Yadav suffered an injury during his recent outing in the Buchi Babu Tournament.

The 2024 edition of the Duleep Trophy began on September 5 with its first round of matches. One of the players who everyone was looking forward to seeing in action for India C was India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav. However, he has not been included in the playing XI, having been ruled out entirely from the squad.

Suryakumar Yadav returned to domestic cricket to play for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. However, his stay lasted all of 38 balls, as he injured his hand while fielding in the tournament. This injury has forced him out of contention for Round 1 of the Duleep Trophy 2024.

Will Suryakumar Yadav play in Duleep Trophy?

In a statement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav had sprained his right thumb and hence will not be available for the first round of the series. Further medical evaluations are currently being taken by the BCCI, and his availability for the second round of the Duleep Trophy will be determined after further evaluations next week.

Ishan Kishan missing from Duleep Trophy

Suryakumar Yadav is not the only player who has been ruled out of the Duleep Trophy 2024. Ishan Kishan, who was set to mark his domestic comeback in the tournament, has been ruled out of the tournament. The BCCI, in a statement said that, Ishan Kishan suffered a groin injury during the Buchi Babu tournament, and hence has been ruled out for the first round of the Duleep Trophy.
