Prithvi Shaw continues to miss matches for Delhi Capitals. After missing the previous game against Punjab Kings, the opener is yet to feature in the RR vs DC clash in IPL 2024. DC’s Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly has shared his insight on the matter.
“Prithvi Shaw is an opener. We decided to open with Marsh and Warner, and Ricky Bhui is a middle-order batter. So, they bat at different positions. So it’s actually not Bhui for sure. It’s a different opening combination, they opened for Australia and they have done well together. So, we decided to do that,” Ganguly explained to reporters ahead of DC’s match against Rajasthan Royals.
The former India Team skipper also claimed that fitness and lack of improvement in domestic cricket has played a big role in Shaw’s absence. Prithvi Shaw was injured for a long time which hampered his progress in domestic cricket. On the other hand, his commitments in Ranji Trophy meant he joined DC camp at a later date.
Prithvi Shaw is still relatively young. And injuries play a big role in hampering a career. As a result, the Delhi Capitals team is awaiting Prithvi Shaw to attain full fitness before he can be a part of the team. Furthermore, as for the opening slot, the Aussie duo of Mitchell Marsh and David Warner proves to be a vital cog in the DC setup.
