“You are talking about Stokesy – I jokingly call her as the Ben Stokes of the team. She is fantastic. The confidence she has shown in her batting and the confidence she has gained in these two innings – nine wickets in the Test match and a fifty! She is an important cog in the wheel when she comes (out to bat in the) lower order, bowls crucial overs, and gets wickets,” said Amol Muzumdar to broadcasters after the match ended.

The deteriorating conditions helped spinners on either side of the wicket, with the pitch spinning significantly from the start of the second day, but none could compete with Sharma. England skipper Heather Knight said she bowled “very well” and Nat Sciver-Brunt, who made a half-century in his first-innings, thought it was her length that gave England trouble.

“When you play spin well, you’re making good decisions going forward and back, not getting caught on the crease. She bowled a length that was difficult to read and attacked the stumps,” Sciver-Brunt said.
