Why India’s hero thought he would be a ‘culprit’ in IND vs AUS 5th T20I

Arshdeep Singh thinks that he would have been the culprit, if India had lost the game against Australia in 5th T20I.

Even though Arshdeep Singh bowled a match-winning last over in the five T20I match of IND vs AUS at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to clinch the series by 4-1, he thinks that he was the culprit of the game.

After giving up 37 runs in his first three overs, Arshdeep bowled a fantastic last over. India’s victory was secured when he bowled two dots, the first of which ought to have been a wide due to Wade’s height.

“I guess for the big part of the game, for almost the first 19 overs, I was thinking that I gave away too many runs and would be the culprit of the game,” Arshdeep said after the match as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

India had given a target of 161 in a batting-friendly pitch. But they fought back by pushing Australia in backfoot with 129/ 7 in 17 over. But in the 18th over, Arshdeep gave away 15 runs that brought Aussies again into the game. However, Arshdeep redeemed himself in the last over by giving just 3 runs and winning the match.

“But god gave me another chance and I believed in myself. Thanks to god that I defended it and thanks to the staff as well who believed in me,” Arshdeep continued.

The average total of Chinnaswamy Stadium is 196 but in IND vs AUS 5th T20I, the pitch was not behaving the same. Later Ben McDermott called it “sticky”.

“I am not really sure what Chinnaswamy is normally like. But I heard it was a really high-scoring ground but the rain coming in all day, these little sprinkles here and there kept it pretty moist. The outfield was quite soft as well. But coming in, it [pitch] looked beautiful, looked really nice but yeah, it was a little bit sticky,” McDermott said who was playing first time in the stadium.
