In absence of Bumrah, India should play lone pacer in IND vs ENG 4th Test, Chopra explains

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah from the XI in IND vs ENG 4th Test, Chopra opines the hosts should play just one pacer

Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to miss IND vs ENG 4th Test at Ranchi. Understandably, the combination of workload management and the little help that the Ranchi pitch could offer to pacers breathes life into the decision to rest Bumrah. Ex-India opener Aakash Chopra backs that decision and dives into who should replace him.

Only one pacer for IND vs ENG 4th Test?

In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra points out that it is logical to rest Bumrah, given that he would play a crucial role in the 5th Test at Dharamshala. He notes that there is very little hope from the Ranchi pitch in terms of assisting pacers. The ex-India opener adds just one pacer – Mohammed Siraj – in India’s XI.

The pitch is said to to spin friendly, and this can prompt India to opt for 4 spinners in the Ranchi Test.

Jadeja and Ashwin are the vital cogs in India’s bowling setup. Kuldeep Yadav played in the previous Test while Axar Patel got a break. But should India go out to play with 4 spinners, then all four bowlers will be called up for action. While reports claim Akash Deep might also get his debut, that plan might be thwarted.
