Gujarat Titans Shubman Gill admitted that the game against MI was probably the rarest of the occasions in IPL when Rashid Khan hadn’t bowled four overs. The Afghanistan spinner bowled just 2 overs, conceding 10 runs in the game at the Narendra Mod stadium. Eventually, it was the pacers who were standout stars for GT, guiding them to a 36-run win over MI.
Gill reveals why Rashid didn’t complete quota
Speaking at the post-match presentation, GT captain Gill revealed that he had intended to bring in Rashid in the death overs. He said that the decision was changed as the pacers were bowling really well. He gave a special shoutout to Prasidh Krishna for troubling MI batters in the death overs.
“I don’t know, maybe this is the first time he didn’t bowl four overs. I actually kept him for the end but I thought the pacers are bowling well,” Gill said when asked about Rashid.
Chasing 197 runs, MI got off to a nightmare of a start, with Siraj castling both Rohit and Rickleton, sending them packing for single digit scores. Prasidh got rid of the dangerous Tilak Verma (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (48). Robin Minz had yet another poor outing as he was dismissed by Kishore for just 3 runs.
Rashid finished the game with figures of 0/10 from 2 overs. The final nail in the coffin was hammered by Rabada as he got rid of a struggling Hardik Pandya for 11 runs off 17 deliveries. The game was already over despite Naman Dhir and Santner staying unbeaten on 18 runs at the end of the game.
