Should Pat Cummins be celebrated for not appealing for a controversial runout in the SRH vs CSK match? The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper had to make a tough call in the 19th over of the first inning. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowling and the score soaring past the 150-run mark, an incident happened.
After Bhuvneshwar bowled an incredible yorker and restricted Ravindra Jadeja, the batter jogged out of his crease for a single, unbeknownst to where the ball was. The pacer saw this and threw the ball at the stumps. However, Jadeja, whether instinctively or not, came between the stumps and the ball.
Seeing this, Sunrisers appealed. The umpires got together to have a chat and perhaps send it for review to the third umpire. But Cummins came and withdrew the obstruction of the field appeal, an act that earned him praise online and from the commentators as well. However, former Delhi Capitals coach Mohammad Kaif has instigated that the reasoning behind withdrawing the appeal might not be to uphold the spirit of cricket.

Pat Cummins’ tactical masterclass or spirit of cricket?
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kaif gave his two cents on the incident. He suggested that Cummins might have done that to keep struggling Jadeja on the crease. Until that ball, Jadeja had scored just 25 off 19 balls and was playing a match-losing inning. He also suggested that Cummins might have wanted MS Dhoni at bay after he smashed the Delhi Capitals all over the park in CSK’s last match.
If the appeal were revoked to uphold the spirit of cricket, Kaif question: would Cummins do this if the match was being played at the T20 World Cup 2024 and the batter was Virat Kohli?
