Why Ben Stokes is at No 6?: Aakash Chopra questions England’s batting accountability during IND vs ENG Test

IND vs ENG Test: Aakash Chopra advises England to change Ben Stokes's batting position after crumbling down to India

The India Cricket Team dominated England and Bazball on Day 1 of the IND vs ENG 1st Test. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned England’s batting setup after their poor display. England skipper Ben Stokes slammed 70 runs and was the highest run getter for the Three Lions.

However Aakash Chopra clarified that what is the use for this? He opined that Ben Stokes should never bat so much down the order. Chopra further went on to raise questions on the accountability of wicket loss.

“If you watch cricket across the globe, you won’t find a pure batter at number 6. Either you find a wicketkeeper or an all-rounder. Ben Stokes at this moment is not bowling and hence is a pure batter. When he bats at 6 it means he has Ben Foakes and that is not right,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

Aakash Chopra gave a simple suggestion. He claimed that Ben Stokes should move up in the order. He should preferably at number 3. In such a condition, Ollie Pope should go down the order. This works best as Stokes can really compliment well with Joe Root with their different batting styles.

“If you score runs, people will say he is a lone warrior. If he doesn’t score then people will say how can you bat with tailenders? Hence there is no accountability of getting out at number 6. Why not come to bat at 3? Put Ollie Pope down the order. Though you have scored 70 runs, you can’t fight this battle if you are down the order,” Chopra concluded.
