As the India vs Australia 5th Test (IND vs AUS) heads towards a possible conclusion on Day 3, the Indian cricket team was seen wearing jerseys with pink stripes at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. The jerseys feature a pink logo, sponsor name, and player numbers. Even the stumps were coloured pink.
Why is India wearing pink jerseys?
The first Test match in January played in Australia is known as the “Pink Test.” Day 3 of a Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground is celebrated as Pink Day. On this day, players and spectators alike wear something pink. This tradition, known as Jane McGrath Day, honours the late Jane McGrath, wife of former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath. Jane passed away in 2008 after a long battle with breast cancer. Glenn McGrath co-founded the McGrath Foundation with Jane to support cancer awareness and care.
Australia wearing pink too
The Australian cricket team also donned pink-themed jerseys featuring a pink sponsor logo, player names, and numbers. Many spectators at the stadium also showed their support by wearing pink.
India bowled out for 157 runs on day 3
On Day 3 of the 5th Test, India was bowled out for 157 runs in 39.5 overs at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Giving the target of 163 runs to Australia. Resuming the day at 143/6, Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed early by Pat Cummins, who tempted him with a sharp delivery. Washington Sundar tried to steady the innings but also fell to Cummins. Scott Boland was relentless, troubling the Indian tailenders and picking up a five-wicket haul. India’s innings ended when Jasprit Bumrah’s leg stump was knocked over, leaving Australia with a target of 162 runs to win. The day, marked as Jane McGrath Day, saw players and fans wearing pink to honour her legacy.
