Who will replace David Warner? Cameron Bancroft eyes ‘specialist’ opener role

As David Warner is all set to play his final Test at the SCG against Pakistan, Cameron Bancroft revealed that he is eyeing the opener's role

As the debate over who would replace the explosive David Warner in Tests for Australia is raging on, one of the contenders for the role expressed his interest to bag the postion. Cameron Bancroft is considered one of the frontunners for the role, having performed consistently in first-class games.

Bancroft eyes Warner’s specialist position

As per Australian Associated Press (AAP), Bancroft noted the opener’s role was a specialist position, noting that it can be rewarding as well. Citing his 10-year experience as an opener in Shield cricket, the Australian national acknowledged that it wasn’t an any position to bat in, adding that there are always challenges and his life has been about solving those.

“Yeah, absolutely,” he told AAP. “I’ve opened the batting in Shield cricket for over 10 years. It’s not an easy place to bat.  It comes with challenges, and my whole career I’ve problem-solved trying to find ways to flourish in those sort of circumstances.

I feel like it probably is a specialist position and it’s certainly a really challenging one. But a very rewarding one as well.”

Cameron Bancroft has been in sublime form in Shield cricket, topping the last season’s charts with 512 runs to his name at an average of 56.88. He is also making the most of his time at the BBL, showing the intent to score runs irrespective of the format, in line with the thoughts of the selectors.
