Jay Shah’s potential departure from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) means that the position of Secretary is up for grabs. Shah hasn’t confirmed that he’s in the running to become the new ICC Chairman and will be elected unanimously if he wishes. He still has until August 27 to file the nomination, and if he does so, the BCCI will have to start their hunt to find the next Secretary.
Who’s the next BCCI Secretary?
His tenure was supposed to end in October 2025, but since he might have to assume the role of ICC Chairman on December 1, the BCCI will have to start the process soon. Now, the main question arrives: who’ll be his successor? BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Ashish Shelar, and IPL chairman Arun Dhumal are the main contenders for the position.
“Obviously, it can happen as there are no hard and fast rules. But if you look at BCCI’s power structure, president, secretary and treasurer are three key posts. There are people who have been in the system and someone just coming and bypassing them normally doesn’t happen. But first, is Jay (Shah) ready to go to the ICC? Even if he doesn’t go now, he can go anytime,” he added. a former BCCI Secretary told PTI.

Shukla has been part of the BCCI since the early 2000s and has held various posts in the last two decades. It could be that he assumes the role of secretary now. Treasurer, Shelar won’t mind it either and has been involved with the Mumbai Cricket Association for around two decades. Dhumal has held the position of treasurer in the past and is privy to how things work in the BCCI as well.
We could potentially see the three swap places as a new face is unlikely to come. However, among those who may not get elected but whose names might appear are joint-secretary Devajit Saikia from Assam, DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association) President Rohan Jaitely, and CAB (Cricket Association of Bengal) President Avishek Dalmiya.
