Who will be India’s 5th bowler in IND vs ENG 3rd Test after R Ashwin pulls out?

Ravichandran Ashwin has pulled out of IND vs ENG 3rd Test due to a family medical emergency, leaving India with a bowler short.

India Cricket Team will have to play three innings with 10 men. With Ravichandran Ashwin pulling out of the IND vs ENG 3rd Test with a family emergency, India are left with four bowlers against a charging England. With no other specialist option in the team, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav will have to share the burden. However, the big question is who will be India’s 5th bowler in the Rajkot Test?

Among specialist batters, only Rohit Sharma has wickets in Test cricket. However, after a shoulder injury, he doesn’t bowl anymore. Rohit Sharma has two Test wickets but the last time he bowled in Test cricket was back in 2021, also against England. He only bowled two overs.

Apart from Rohit Sharma, only Sarfaraz Khan has taken wickets First Class cricket. Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar and Yashasvi Jaiswal have never taken a First Class wicket.

Pressure on Bumrah-Jadeja

On a batting pitch, India needed Ashwin’s magic to keep England at bay. Ben Duckett dominated Day 2 with the bat, scoring a blazing 133 off just 118 balls. With no Ashwin in IND vs ENG 3rd Test, India are in trouble.

The pressure will be on the two senior players Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin to shoulder the burden.

With both Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah injury-prone, there will be concerns about workload management. Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav will need to chip in with wickets.

Later on BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla revealed that he had to rush home to attend to his mother who fell seriously ill.
