South African bowling all-rounder Nandre Burger on Thursday was handed his debut by the Proteas skipper Aiden Markram in the IND vs SA 3rd T20I. The 28-year-old left-arm seamer gets a look in into the Proteas team due to the unavailability of several experienced fast bowlers.
Burger has been playing domestic cricket consistently for seven years before making his debut in national colours. The left-arm pacer made his first-class debut in 2017 under the leadership of CSK star Devon Conway.

In his domestic career, Burger has made 40 appearances, taking 122 wickets at an average of just under 29 and at an economy rate of over 3. Burger played 43 matches in T20 cricket too, taking 43 wickets in 43 matches.
Burger interestingly plies trade for Chennai Super Kings’ sister franchise Joburg Super Kings in SA20. The allrounder was signed by the JSK earlier this year. The franchise has also decided to retain Burger for SA20 2024.
Nandre Burger might be making his debut, but he is no strangers to getting international cricketers out. In 2019, England played a three-day warm-up game against South Africa ‘A’ before the beginning of a Test series against hosts South Africa. Burger was part of the ‘A’ team and took important two wickets in the first innings. The batters he got out were Joe Root and Jos Buttler.
