Maphaka was player of tournament in U19 WC 2024
The new signing of Mumbai Indians, Kwena Maphaka came to the limelight after his excellent display of bowling in the last concluded U19 World Cup. He was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with record 21 wickets to his name which is the highest by any SA pacer in World Cup. Maphaka was also adjudged player of the tournament which included 3 five-wicket hauls.
The talented fast bowler has also featured in three matches for the Lions in the CSA T20 Challenge this year and bowled decently. Maphaka has the ability to generate speeds of up to 140kph, along with a menacing bouncer and lethal yorkers.
Maphaka is in his final year of high school. A talented all-round sportsman, Maphaka has also had success in tennis and hockey. He hails from the same school as Kagiso Rabada, St. Stithians. Joining the ranks of Mumbai Indians, Maphaka is set to benefit from the mentorship of cricket legends like Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah.
