Who is Dhammika Niroshana? Cricketer who captained Sri Lanka in Under-19 World Cup meets tragic end

Having played with stars like Upul Tharanga and Jeevan Mendis, Dhammika Niroshana, also known as Jonty, was shot dead by an unidentified attacker outside his residence in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka.

Former Sri Lanka Under-19 captain Dhammika Niroshana suffered a tragic end as the 41-year-old was shot by an unidentified attacker outside his residence in Sri Lanka. Niroshana lived with his wife and two children. Police authorities have already started their investigation and will look to find the assailant as soon as possible.

Who is Dhammika Niroshana?

Dhammika Niroshana initially came into the scene when he made his debut for Sri Lanka in 2000 against Singapore. From the start, he began making an impact with his all-round abilities. Although he never played for his country at the senior level, he shared the space with the likes of Irfan Pathan, Stuart Binny, and Parthiv Patel, who were playing for India Under-19, while Niroshana played against them as a Sri Lankan all-rounder.

Not only did he play, but he also captained the side, leading Sri Lanka in the 2002 Under-19 World Cup held in New Zealand. Although the team did not perform well, he led them to the second stage of the Super League under his leadership.
