IPL 2025: Priyansh Arya, a promising young talent, is set to make his much-anticipated IPL debut for the Punjab Kings in the 2025 season. Known for his explosive batting and ability to dominate bowlers, Arya has already made a name for himself in domestic cricket. Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans have won the toss and opted to bowl first against PBKS in today’s IPL match.
Who is Priyansh Arya?
Arya first caught the cricketing world’s attention during the inaugural Delhi Premier League, where he emerged as the leading run-scorer with 608 runs in just ten innings. His remarkable feat of hitting six sixes in an over during the tournament further solidified his reputation as a power-hitter. Additionally, he was Delhi’s top run-scorer in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, showcasing his consistency and adaptability across formats.
Both of his parents, Pawan Arya and Radha Bala Arya, are teachers in government schools in Delhi. Growing up in Ashok Vihar, New Delhi, Priyansh was supported by his parents in pursuing cricket, despite their academic backgrounds and initial unfamiliarity with sports. They ensured he balanced his education with his passion, and he completed a BA from Swami Shraddhanand College, Delhi University, while chasing his cricketing dreams.
The Punjab Kings secured Arya for Rs 3.8 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, recognizing his potential to be a game-changer. Under the mentorship of head coach Ricky Ponting, Arya has expressed his excitement and determination to make the most of this opportunity. He has described wearing the Punjab Kings jersey as a surreal experience and is eager to contribute to the team’s success.
For Punjab Kings, Arya is expected to play a key role as an opener, potentially addressing the team’s struggles with a low PowerPlay run rate in recent seasons. Under head coach Ricky Ponting, who has praised Arya as a “very special potential opening batsman,” and captain Shreyas Iyer, Arya joins a squad featuring stars like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal. His explosive batting style, inspired by idols like Virat Kohli and Brendon McCullum, aligns with PBKS’s aim to build a dynamic and competitive team for their IPL 2025 campaign, which begins against Gujarat Titans on March 25, 2025, in Ahmedabad.
