New Zealand: The only team to play all editions but never win it once

Despite going past the quarterfinal stage in 9 out of the 12 editions of the event, New Zealand has failed to get hold of the coveted ODI World Cup trophy.

South Africa: So close yet too far

Since their re-admission in 1992, South Africa has reached the quarterfinals or better in 6 out of the 8 tournaments they have played. However, their inability to hold their nerves at pressure moments has seen them falter again and again when it matters the most.

Bangladesh: Promise but no dice

Despite rising through the ranks and handing blows to tougher oppositions, Bangladesh stands at the same place from where they started. Despite playing every ODI World Cup since 1999, they have only reached the final four once, but with a much more balanced team in 2023, they look to make a statement.

The young ones: Netherlands and Afghanistan

The Netherlands and Afghanistan have played just 6 ODI World Cups between them. Both teams have never been to the quarterfinals or semifinals and have a combined total of 3 wins in the tournament.
