Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are currently facing turmoil, especially after how last season came for them. Now they need to revamp things well before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Since they can retain a total of six players, five need to be confirmed before the auction. Also, there is a certain slab this time where the first retention will get 18 crore, the second will get 14 crore, the third will see 11 crore, the fourth will receive 18 crore, and the fifth will get 14 crore. Uncapped players can receive a maximum of 4 crore. But which names can see the big price of 18 crore, as there are clearly two spots for that? Hardik Pandya
The first name, whose last season’s performance didn’t meet expectations, but still looks like a sureshot retention for MI and probably for a big amount. Hardik Pandya returned to the side in IPL 2024 after seeing success with Gujarat Titans, where his captaincy led the team to the IPL trophy in GT’s debut season in 2022.
Also in the 2023 edition, the team reached the finals. Now however, when MI brought him for the 2024 season, his return wasn’t well-received by MI fans, especially when he got the captaincy. He was booed by the fans, which came as a shock to many, and we saw the effect on the field. Both his performance and MI’s performance suffered, with the team finishing 10th on the table or say came last at IPL 2024 class. Despite this, Hardik Pandya is still expected to be part of the team and could fetch a big amount. Jasprit Bumrah
The big name which is expected to be the top retention for MI is Jasprit Bumrah. It was already a topic of discussion last season as to why he wasn’t getting a big amount like Mitchell Starc. Many former players believed at that time that Bumrah deserved more, and now with all the retention slabs set, chances are very high that Bumrah will not only get retained but also get the first retention spot with a price of Rs 18 crore. There is no question that he always steps up whenever the team needs him. Even in the last season, when every MI player was struggling to perform, Bumrah did well and pushed the limits. He could be the one to get the big price.
Suryakumar Yadav
Last but certainly not least, India’s 360-degree batter is also expected to snatch a big amount. Although it’s debatable what amount he could get, whether it will be Rs 14 crore or Rs 11 crore, or this big bracket, there are strong chances that if he doesn’t fit into the first bracket, he may still get Rs 18 crore in the fourth bracket. MI could bring him back to the team with a hefty price tag. Rohit Sharma is also a player who might get this mammoth amount, but there are a lot of speculations surrounding his future with the team for now. MI will likely aim to retain players at this high price who are expected to serve the team for a few more years.
